Bespoke training case study: The Royal and Ancient Golf Club

The Royal and Ancient Golf Club (R&A) sought training to establish higher standards of communication and service within their organization. They had identified a need for training, and had approached several providers, but none of them seemed offer a suitable package. Club Manager Graham Clark noticed an article about the Skills Academy in a local paper and made contact. Project Manager Anneliese Archibald assessed the R&A's training needs, prepared a training tender document, sourced potential training companies and guided the R&A through the interview process. Graham Clark says; "Anneliese was brilliant...we would not have had the knowledge or resources to do what she did for us...the tender Anneliese put together gave us the best possible opportunity of getting the right result. I would wholeheartedly, without reservation, recommend the services of the SASA to other organisations."

Robin Peters, manager of People2Profit, was one of the training providers invited to tender for the R&A contract. He was excited about the opportunity to work with such a prestigious organisation and wanted to support their development. The SASA (St Andrew Skills Academy) had made it easier for Robin to understand the R&A's training needs by providing a comprehensive initial brief. When Robin was invited to St Andrews for an interview, the manager of the SASA even organised transport from the airport to the golf club. Robin says, "I would very much recommend the services of the SASA; my perception is that the SASA, as an impartial body, obviously wants to ensure that it recommends reputable training providers, and this means that the SASA can be the catalyst, encouraging businesses - who are often reluctant to spend their money on training - to book the training they need...I think it is an excellent idea, and I hope that it will be built on and replicated around the country."
